“I do trust you. Hurry and be careful. I love you.”

“I love you too, Kitten. I’ll be there as fast as I can.”

As I waited for him to get home, I paced the kitchen and living room. I wanted to be doing something. On top of being afraid, deep down a fire was burning inside of me. I wanted to get my hands on Hans and kill him for everything he’d put me, Amiah and now Betty through.

Every time I heard the roar of a bike, I ran to the window, only it wasn’t him. About thirty minutes later, when I heard another one and looked, I was relieved to see him pulling up outside the house. He jumped off his bike, tore off his helmet and raced for the door. I was standing there with it open by the time he got to it. He crushed me in his arms as he lifted me off my feet. His lips were kissing me all over my face. All I could do was cry.

“Shh, it’s going to be okay, baby. Let’s get you inside. It’s too cold out here for you.” He backed me into the house and closed the door. He took me to the couch and sat down with me on his lap.

“What are we going to do?” I asked him.

“It’s already being done. I talked to Wrath. He's sending a few of his guys over to watch her in Smyrna. When she gets out of the hospital, they’ll stay with her or take her somewhere safe. She won’t be left alone.”

“Oh, thank God! I couldn’t stand it if he hurt her again because of me,” I told him weakly.

“He’s not going to get another chance. I need to talk to Bull and let him know what’s going on. Usually something like this would go through him to another president, but I wanted to get someone over to her as soon as possible. Bull’s waiting for me at the clubhouse. Will you be alright here alone, or do you want me to get someone to come sit with you?”

“I’ll be fine, now that I know she’s not going to be down there all alone. All I could imagine is him coming back to hurt her again. Go, talk to Bull. I need to stay here and finish dinner. I don’t need anyone to sit with me.”

“It smells delicious. I’ll be back as soon as I can.” He gave me another kiss then left the house. I got up and went to the kitchen. I needed to do something, so I was going to bake while the chili cooked.
